Velachery link to be opened on Monday
Southern Railway will operate 116 services on the much awaited Mass Rapid Transit System between Chennai Beach and Velachery to be inaugurated by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday.
While the first service will leave Chennai Beach at 6.05 a.m. and reach the Velachery MRTS station at 6.45 a.m., the last will leave the Beach station at 8.30 p.m.
The first service from Velachery will leave at 6.50 a.m. and reach Beach at 7.30 a.m. while the last service will leave Velachery at 9.15 p.m. reaching Beach at 9.55 p.m.
To start with six-car rakes will be operated at an interval of 10 minutes during peak hours, and 15-20 minutes gap during non-peak hours.
The fare will be Rs.7 from Chennai Beach to Velachery. Once the new service is introduced, season tickets will be issued and will cost Rs.120 a month from Chennai Beach to Velachery.
The MRTS will have limited services on Sunday when 88 trips will be operated at an interval of 20 minutes. Source: Hindu
