Thomson sets up scientific centre in Chennai

Thomson Corporation, one of the world’s leading content providers, Thursday announced setting up its Scientific Centre in Chennai. The Canada-based Thomson Corporation, which last week bought over Reuters news agency, also announced the expansion of its editorial operations in Hyderabad.

“Our new centre in Chennai will be an important element in Thomson Scientific’s business operations strategy in 2007 and beyond,” Stephen Quinn, senior vice president (editorial operations) of Thomson Scientific, said here. “We are confident our Chennai and Hyderabad teams will become an integral part of Thomson Scientific’s vision to become a premier electronic workflow solution provider to professional customers,” he added.

The Thomson Scientific Centre in Chennai is the firm’s third major editorial facility in India, the other two being in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Chennai was chosen over 19 other cities, including some in the Philippines, said Viji Krishnan, vice president (strategy and implementation) for the company’s Editorial Operation Group.

“We combine authoritative content with innovate technology and hope to leverage this to support our global products,” Krishnan said. The company hopes to employ 500 experts from technical professionals as well as fresh graduates and non-technical as writers and editors for the centre, which will be headed by S. Prakkash.
