Sun TV official receives death threats

A senior official of the Maran family-owned Sun TV Network has sought police protection, claiming he was receiving phone calls threatening his life.

W Hansraj Saxena, Chief Operating Officer of Sun TV Network, said on Thursday that he had been receiving anonymous phone calls since Wednesday night, issuing threat to his life if he continued to work for the Sun group.

“I have been receiving the calls from various PCOs here and my family is very upset about this and I have sought police protection,” he said.

When contacted, Chennai Police Commissioner Letika Saran said the “police will do the needful” since Saxena had requested for police protection.

“We will be registering a case based on his complaint and do the rest later”, she said.

The Maran family had recently earned the ire of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi following the publication of a survey in Dinakaran newspaper, owned by the Marans, which favoured his younger son M K Stalin as the popular choice as his political heir, leading to attack on the daily’s office in Madurai which left three persons dead earlier this month.
