President to address RGNIYD in Chennai
President Pratibha Patil today left for her first domestic tour to Chennai where she will deliver the foundation day address at the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) at Sreperumbudur tomorrow.
Patil would also unveil the logo of the institute as well as launch its website, Rashtrapati Bhavan’s official spokesperson Arachana Datta said. The President, who is being accompanied by her husband Devisingh Shekhawat, will also pay her tributes at the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial where the former Prime Minister was assassinated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in May 1991 during an election campaign.
RGNIYD is an autonomous organisation of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and is fully funded by the Government of India. The Institute is located at Sriperumbudur, 40 minutes away from Chennai.
The institute endeavours to facilitate the youth with a conducive environment and tools that would enable them to make the most of their natural potential to realize their aspirations.
