Poll for Madurai West Assembly seat on June 26
The Election Commission today announced holding polls for the Madurai West Assembly constituency on June 26, which fell vacant in February due to death of its sitting member S.V.Shanmugam.
‘It has been the clear and consistent policy of the Election Commission that the bye elections shall be held at the earliest possible opportunity in order to ensure that no segment of the Indian people remain unrepresented for long time,’ a release from the Commission stated.
With today’s announcement the moral code of conduct has come into force in the District.
The last date for filing nominations is June 8 and the counting of votes will take place on June 29.
