Nissan India launches Teana luxury sedan

The Nissan Teana is a front wheel drive mid-size automobile produced by Nissan of Japan, introduced in 2003. It is exported as the Nissan Maxima and Nissan Cefiro to certain markets, not to be confused with the Nissan Maxima sold in North America. It shares a platform with the North American Nissan Maxima and Nissan Altima, as well as the Japanese market Nissan Presage.
Close on the heels of the lauch of its luxury sedan Teana in Delhi and Bangalore, Japanese auto major Nissan launched the car here today. With an ex-showroom price of Rs 20.47 lakhs, the company hoped to rope in company executives in the age group of 40-years and above, who sought comfort and relaxation after a heavy day at office, Nissan India’s Director sales and marketing Neeraj Garg told media persons after the launch.
‘The car offers more knee space and head space’, he said. The noise level inside the car, possibly the longest car in the country, was perhaps the lowest in the segment,he said.
Replying to a question, he said that volume was not the firm’s major consideration. ‘We want to prove our technology supremacy in petrol engines’. The company hoped to sell atleast 350 units in the 2007-08 fiscal, he said.
From a safety and convenience standpoint Teana, he said, came with innovative and convenient features. The intelligent lock system, operated with a pocket sized remote, allowed the owners to open and close the door locks and start the ignition without removing the key from their pockets. Asked about the market acceptance of Nissan’s X-Trail SUV, he said 500 units had been sold since its launch in 2004.
To another question, he said the company’s proposed manufacturing facility to be set up here with alliance partner Renault and local manufacturer Mahindra was expected to start production in the second half of the 2009 financial year. Source: Hindu
