A police team from Andhra Pradesh on Monday met with the Chennai police to collect details about the notorious pimp Kannada Prasad. The inquiry by the AP police is aimed at finding details of the large network the accused was running in that state. Prasad is being accused of bringing minor girls from Andhra Pradesh to Chennai and engaging them in prostitution. Mr. Kotta Reddy, an inspector from Tirupati, headed the AP team.Â
The team from Andhra Pradesh came here with newspaper cuttings detailing the activities of the accused. It had been reported in the media that Prasad operated a large network and had influential contacts in Andhra Pradesh. It is expected that the AP team may visit again to question Prasad after the city police takes him into custody, a police officer said. The team from the city central crime branch expects Prasad to reveal the details of his network during his interrogation. Prasad is at present lodged in the Puzhal Central Jail.
Prasad is accused of supplying high-profile call girls, including actresses, to politicians and VIPs. Some police officers are also allegedly on the ‘payroll’ of the pimp, sources said. Prasad is also accused of forcing three minor girls from AP and Karnataka into prostitution. After they were rescued, the police slapped three more cases against the accused.
