Hollywood producers step into Tamil film field

In production, Tamil cinema comes behind Hindi and Telugu films. In earnings, Telugu overtakes Tamil cinema. But overseas, Tamil films pose a challenge to Hindi films, with Telugu films just a kid’s challenge.

Tamil films of prominent stars and directors are received with great enthusiasm in Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, America, Australia, England and Arab countries. These films gross more than the Hindi films.

For example, after ‘Guru,’ ‘Pokkiri’ and ‘Azhwar’ were best grossing films in England when all 3 were running at the same time. New Hindi films could retain only 4th and 5th positions.

Films starring Madhavan run very well in these countries. Kamal and Rajini films are received as well as local films. The enthusiastic response by fans for these films is taking people by surprise.

Apart from Tamilnadu, Tamil films seem to create records in the neighboring states of Kerala, Andhra and Karnataka. Tamil films do good business in Mumbai too. Vikram’s ‘Samy’ ran for a 100 days and even Salman Khan Spoke of it with great respect.

All this points to a favorable spot for Tamil films over Hindi films too. So, Hindi film producers are turning their attention towards Tamil films. The talent of our cinema folks is a good reason for this.

Reliance Adlabs is establishing its big presence as a producer in the Hindi film field. This company is contributing to the production of Ajith’s ‘Kireetam.’ Ram Gopal Varma’s company is producing ‘Leelai.’ Co-producer of ‘Kannamoochi Enadaa’ is U TV from the north. It is holding talks with Ameer to produce his next film.

In coming years, it won’t be surprising if apart from north Indian production companies, even Hollywood producers step into Tamil film field. In this regard, Kamal says “Cinema is a big business. When I said this, no one understood me properly. Now we have used only 10% of its possibilities. We still have a long way to go.”

This is a good pointer that Tamil cinema will grow in leaps and bounds.
