Counselling in Chennai only

State Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy today said that counselling for Engineering admissions would be held only in Chennai. Announcing this in the State Assembly, Ponmudy said to avoid confusion among students, counselling for all professional courses would be held in Chennai. Last year, counselling was held in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Madurai.

It may be noted that the State government has introduced a Bill to abolish the Common Entrance Test (CET) for professional courses this year. Hence, students would be admitted based on their Plus-Two marks only. On the admission procedure, Ponmudy said first preference would be given to students based on their overall score in Plus Two examinations. This would be followed by individual marks scored by students in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Lastly, the students would be considered for admissions to professional courses based on their dates of birth. If there was a tally between the students on these varied methods, they would be selected based on the lucky draws, the Minister informed. Ponmudy also said the counselling fees was reduced from Rs 300 to Rs 200 for each student. Source: NewsToday
