Chennai hospital ties up with US varsity
The corporate Lifeline Multi-Speciality Hospital and the University of Missouri, which gets donations from Gift of Life International (GOLI), a US-based voluntary organisation, would implement a programme to perform cardiac surgery on children suffering from cardiovascular diseases at subsidised rate.
The hospital, with technical assistance from the university and donations from GOLI, would undertake treatment for the complex paediatric cardiovascular diseases, hospital chairman Dr J S Rajkumar said inaugurating the scheme.
Joe Harringdon, representative of GOLI, said his organisation had donated funds for treatment of heart diseases for children in Colombia and Romania and it was happy to extend the benefit for children in India.
Kanimozhi, newly elected member of the Rajya Sabha and daughter of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, said the best medical treatment at affordable cost should be extended to the rural masses. She said she was happy to note that Lifeline had come forward to help the needy children.
US Consular General David Hooper said the US administration and the people of his country always cared for the health care of the people of other countries and was happy that a US voluntary organisation had come forward to subsidise the cost of cardiac surgeries for children.
