Chennai city ranked second in a cleanliness survey

Chennai city ranked second in a cleanliness survey held across the country, scoring high on greenery and plantations, clean roads, garbage disposal systems and availability of dustbins in public places.

Soap brand Lifebuoy commissioned the countrywide survey — the `Lifebuoy Swasthya Chetna City Meter.’ Chennai scored 118, against an average of 100.

Chandigarh came first with a score of 144.

The survey, conducted by AC Nielsen ORG MARG, covered 18 State capitals, including metros. It took into account the opinion of citizens on cleanliness in their cities.

Vijay Udasi, associate director, AC Nielson, said ratings were based on eleven parameters such as cleanliness of roads, involvement of municipal bodies and garbage disposal systems.

The cleanliness index was derived from these parameters and the all-city-average set at 100.

The survey was conducted across 18 state capitals and a total of 4,900 respondents were surveyed at an average of 300 per city.

The age of respondents, both male and female, varied from 18 years to 60 years, both male and female and they resided in different parts of the city.
