Aachi Manorama on completes 50 years in Kollywood

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and the film fraternity on Monday raised a toast to “Aachi” Manorama,, the matchless commedian loved as much for the spark of humour she brought to the big screen as for her humility.

The tribute to Manorama on her completing 50 years in films since debuting in 1958 was marked by a spontaneous show of affection from her film industry colleagues. The 65-year-old Manorama had made it to the Guinness Book of World Records when she completed 800 films. She completed her 1,000 films in 1985. And she still has an ambition: to play the role of an eunuch, which has eluded her so far! She was honoured with the ‘Padmasri’ by the Indian Government in 2002 and bagged her first national award (’Puthiya Pathai’) in 1988.
