The 79th Oscar awards was held at Los Angeles with its inherent fanfare and glitter. Martin Scorcese won the Best Director award after literally waiting a lifetime for this.
His The Departed also won in the Best Picture category. Martin Scorsese was presented the award by three Hollywood greats, Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas.
The Best actor was won by Forest Whitaker who portrayed Idi Amin in The last king of Scotland. The Best actress was won by Helen Mirren who played a convincing Queen Elizabeth 11 in The Queen.
Indian entry through Canada, Director Deepa Mehta’s Water failed to win in the Foreign film category.
