Ninaithu Ninaithu Parthen
Set against the backdrop of a film institute, Ninaithu Ninaithu Parthen, directed by Manikandan, is an offbeat love story sans the conventional duets. The director cleverly juxtaposes in the screenplay a real life incident with real life characters enacting the role to bring in that authentic touch.
Adikesavan (Vikranth) is a student at the film institute. Farhana (debutant Ashitha), a Pakistani national, joins the institute to do a course on film direction. Her younger sister suffers from a heart ailment and comes to India for treatment. Farhana, along with her mother, accompanies the ailing girl to India. The family in fact hails from Chennai, but her father Khan (Captain Raju) shifts to Pakistan as he hates anything Indian. At the institute she has to face some radical students who oppose her admission. Adi comes to her rescue. The gang led by Varadarajan (Rajkapur) tries to get at Adi. But their attempt misfires. Adi marries Farhana at the Registrar office. Meanwhile Khan comes to India to be with his younger daughter during her operation. The radicals inform Khan about Adi and Farhana’s wedding. He spots them at a restaurant, drags her home and locks her up. Now Varadarajan and Khan, sworn enemies by their beliefs join hands to eliminate Adi. Farhana thinks Adi is killed and consumes poison. A shocked Adi becomes insane so much so that his parents (Roja and Shankar) who are in search of him for years fail to recognise him in the end.
Vikranth is at home, both in jovial scenes at the institute and in intense sequences towards the climax. Karunas and company provide much relief with their gags when one feels that the main story drags a bit too much. Ashitha makes an impressive debut with her innocent looks and restraint. Apart from his deft handling of an offbeat theme, director Manikandan creates a confusion regarding the period. Some persons are shown collecting Kargil War fund. Then the set period for the story must be between May and July 1999 when the conflict with Pakistan took place in Kargil. Interestingly, Dr KM Cherian who in real life heart ailments has played the role of the doctor. Ninaithu … is one of the first films to roll from the corporate house Pyramid Saimira. The film is produced by Babu Raja under the banner of J.J. Good Films.
