Calvin Klein coming to India
Calvin Klein, the Swiss watch and jewellery maker belonging to the Swatch group, will soon enter India. To begin with it will start with watches and bring in its jewellery collection by end of the year.In fact, the watches would be available on the shelves of retail malls by end of April or early May.
“Coming to India is a big move for us. It is market which is ready for fashion products. We have a good understanding of the market and are looking to build our brand.India is a long term investment,” Christophe Daine, area sales manager (Asia-pacific), Calvin Klein said. The brand, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, is in the process of tying up with Finex Distribution private Ltd for distributing its products.
Both the Calvin Klein watch line - ck and Calvin Klein Jeans would be available in the Indian market and the average retail price would be around Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. “Indian customers are trendy, fashionable and very knowledgeable. Their brand awareness is high. All our models will be available for them. At a later stage we may even look at a possible special Indian edition,” he added.
In the first year Calvin Klein hopes to have at least 20 to 25 points of sale in places such as Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkatta.
Calvin Klein sees Armani, Fossil, Titan, GUESS, as competitors in India. “We see a lot of competition in India but our USP will be that we are Swiss-made. Not only that, we are affordable,” Daine said.
